  1. Wow. Is that a five foot dragon fly singing into a microphone?

  2. Amazing! How did you take this photo? And what’s it doing?

    • I took the photo with my regular iPhone. Quietly got as close as I could to it.

It’s perched on the antenna of my car– where it stayed off and on for a coupe hours. It was huge– three inches at least.

I tried to get a o pic of its face which was amazing and Yoda-like. And I swear to you it was “chewing” and I could hear its jaws clacking. If anything this photo doesn’t do justice to its size and color.

I also managed to get a macro lens close up of its wing that I’ll post tomorrow. It’s purely amazing the architecture of that delicate little wing and the bright red/orange of its body.

We’ve been attracting dragonflies in our garden this year like crazy– not exactly sure why…

  3. Answer Bellis, please, this is amazing.

  4. There must be a pond or lake near you somewhere, Kat, though dragonflies do travel long distances. I saw one up at Islip Saddle on the Angeles Crest Highway at 7,000 ft. Not many ponds up there. Looking forward to a close-up of the wing.

  5. Yes he was giant and that is a microphone. It was truly amazing until all he would sing was Eddie and the Cruiser’s “The Dark Side” over and over.
